First Ever GB Honduras Women’s Conference a Success!
February 7th was the first ever Global Brigades Honduras Women’s Conference! 30 female Global Brigades staff and 70 female leaders from the Basic Sanitation Committees, Community Health Workers, Community Banks, and Water Councils from 12 different communities came together in the local municipality of Cantarranas to participate and share experiences during this day.
There were several presentations given throughout the day which covered topics including feminism, STI’s, contraceptives, violence against women, leadership & communication, budgeting, and beauty. Special guest, Nelly Mejia, from the water council in La Concepcion gave her testimonial as a single mother who mobilized women’s and men’s work groups during the construction of the water system and continues to be a strong female leader in her community.
This was a wonderful day for the women in the communities where we work. They were able to share and learn together and bring back the information that was shared to their own communities.
We would like to thank all of those who helped us fundraise for this event which will also contribute to future events, as we would like to continue doing women’s conferences in the future. Special thanks to the DePaul December 2012 medical brigade and Mt. Allison February 2013 all program brigades for their generous donations!
