365 days have elapsed since the first ever Global Brigades group arrived to Ghana! Today marks the one year anniversary of operations in Ghana, the most recent of the Global Brigades country operations.
Programs began in the community of Ekumfi Ekotsi in 2011 with a Brigade from Ireland. Ironically one year later we find ourselves at the airport again to receive a Microfinance Brigade from Ireland.
Reflecting on the past year of work here in the Central Region of Ghana, we thank each and every one of the 501 students that have come on Medical, Dental, Water and Microfinance Brigades in Ghana. Our ability to collaborate with rural communities depends on the movement of university students from around the word that prioritize Global Brigades events on their campuses. From the bottom of our hearts, from all of the communities, Global Brigades Ghana staff and everyone involved in making these programs- THANK YOU! We celebrate the work of the past year with all of you in our prayers of thanks.
The most important aspect of this one year anniversary is to reflect on the potential we have as a unified group of passionate people to collaborate in social change. Medical, Dental, Water and Microfinance Brigades represent benchmarks today, I smile in appreciation, thanksgiving and anticipation of what this date looks like next year…
