By Clare McInerney

GB’s newest UK chapter, the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) has just received formal campus recognition and official chapter status for their Microfinance Brigades Chapter. SOAS is a college of the University of London and one of the only higher education institutions in the UK specializing in the study of Asia, Africa and the Near and Middle East with disciplines ranging from Development Economics to African Language and Culture.

SOAS is currently planning their first Microfinance brigade to Ghana from June 1st through the 10th where they will be working alongside local leaders of a Community Development Fund to provide savings and loans services as well as financial literacy education programs to the wider community. Students will have the opportunity to use their applied studies and regional concentration on Africa directly in the field and apply theory to practice. For more information or to join this brigade, please contact Chapter Leader Samantha Helen Witte at 289269@soas.ac.uk.
