This past weekend, Feb 24-26 of 2011, twenty-five women representing 6 provinces and 2 indigenous comarcas of Panama came to Panama City to be personally interviewed for a chance to be apart of La Red de Mentoras, a mentoring program for Panamanian business women and/or entrepreneurs in rural panama to business women in Panama City. Out of 50 applications received, 25 Mentees were chosen for a final interview and from those 25, eleven were chosen as the final participants. There was laughter, tears, selling of their products, and lots of hugs. Those who were chosen represent 4 provinces and 2 comarcas and have businesses from eco-tourism to artesanía to selling seafood. The Mentees and Mentors participated in Training Workshop where they defined goals and did a micro enterprise assessment. The Mentors were already chosen before this weekend and are Executive Directors, General Managers, and Owners of businesses all over Panama. It was amazing to be around such amazing women who want to support each other and see economic development in not just Panama City but in the rural areas as well.
