During the third quarter of 2013, Global Brigades Ghana piloted a much-needed Public Health initiative. Through both Water and Medical – Public Health Hybrid Brigades, GB worked in the community of Srafa Aboano to support the effort of ending open defecation. In August, Water Brigades Ghana welcomed its first Hybrid Brigade from Loyola University. Loyola constructed both a Household Rainwater Harvester and a Ventilated Improved Pit Latrine together with providing both family and school children with Public Health education.

In January and February 2014, two more Water – Public Health Hybrid Brigades will come to Ghana to empower the community members of Srafa Aboano to live healthier and more productive lives! Due to successful Community-led Total Sanitation triggering, community members have recognized the importance of ending open defecation within the community and are ready to move forward.
