Global Microfinance Brigades is a secular, 501c3 nonprofit organization that empowers volunteers to participate in hands on, sustainable, international development projects focusing on the economic development of communities. The organization has two basic goals:

• Improve the quality of life in rural developing communities by raising the income level of community members, mainly through the distribution of small scale loans, community organization, and education.
• Empower volunteers to participate in a real life, international development experience during which they learn the importance of savings culture, business planning, and economic diversification. We aim to develop a teaching/learning relationship with a rural developing community, and leave with a heightened knowledge and interest in international development and global microfinance issues.

We are currently in search of a recently-graduated and passionate intern to assist in all aspects of the Microfinance program in rural Honduras. This work would involve collaboration with Global Brigades Staff from all Honduran programs, local community members, other nonprofit organizations, and University students in all phases of work, which include but are not limited to:

• Planning and management of Cajas Rurales (Community banks) with MFB Staff, volunteers, community members, local government, etc.
• Planning and management of logistics for volunteer trips
• Inspiring group discussions, able to encourage but guide student thinking
• Leading groups of volunteers on a one week Microfinance brigade in rural Honduras including overseeing student safety, and overall experience
• Leading and coordinating a team of GB staff (translators, drivers, technicians, etc.) during one week brigades
• Development and implementation of business and personal finance programs in which volunteers can participate
• Translating to improve communication between community members and volunteers.
• Personally interacting and developing close relationships with community members without translator support
• Marketing the MFB program to volunteers (University faculty, students, professionals)
• Creation of pre and post project documentation, assist in the collection and summarization of brigade reports
• Quickly provide business consulting to community members
• Collaboration on the creation of marketing material
• Quickly identifying the feasibility and profitability of potential rural investments
• Performing consistent documentation and revision of community banks’ accounting books
• The development of economic metrics to measure loan and bank impact over time
• Developing projections and identifying accounting issues
• Collaborating with local governments and non-profit partners

A strong, positive, vocal, collaborative, and organized leader is preferred. The position will be mentally demanding. It will involve hiking and time spent outdoors in rural Honduran communities. Hours are often irregular particularly when working on projects with volunteer groups.
