On April 20th, Portland Roasting Coffee and Portland Global Initiatives held an incredible fundraising event called “Coffeelandia” in Portland, Oregon. Described as “a mythical place where coffee, food, beer, wine and song co-mingle in an open and accepting environment”, this unique fundraiser featured local culinary delights and artists in an effort to raise money for Water Brigades.
Thanks to this amazing event and a $10K sponsorship from Portland Global Initiatives, we were able to raise a total of $16,500 for Water Brigades!
Water Brigades is thrilled to be partnering with Portland Global Initiative and their sponsors to be able to take new steps towards getting water to under-resourced communities in rural Honduras. Water Brigades has been making great advances in priority Global Brigades communities with gravity-based water systems, however this type of water system is not feasible in all communities due to topography and water source availability.
In those communities where constructing a gravity based system is impossible, the only available water source is often ground water which can only be accessed through a well and removed from the ground with a pump. With the collaboration of Portland Global Initiatives, Water Brigades will be able to fund the initial ground-breaking cost of digging a well and/or installing a pump in a community with high priority water needs. In collaboration with the Water Brigades team and future Water Brigades volunteers, this contribution opens new doors to the types of water problems that Global Brigades can address in Honduras.
Thank you to Portland Global Initiatives and to all of the following sponsors for supporting this amazing event and the under-resourced communities that Global Brigades works with.
