In honor of Global Brigades Month, we are bringing you a new student highlight every week. These student volunteers were nominated by our Advising Team for their dedication to GB and for going above and beyond in planning and participating on Brigades.
Who: Ramón Ray
School: Texas A&M University
Nominated by Dental Brigades Program Staff: Ramon was extremely flexible and had great communication. He was always excited to work together and was quick in response time. He recruited a great team of over 20 dental volunteers and hired 3 dentists to create a HUGE dental station that greatly impacted Pueblo Nuevo.
What was your most memorable Brigade experience and why?
My most memorable Brigade experience was definitely seeing the smiles on every persons face after being treated! As a future Dentist nothing is more rewarding to me than seeing a big smile on someone’s face and seeing that day after day was such an amazing experience. It goes to show how much the people we help on Brigades appreciate what we do!
How has your Brigade experience impacted your life back home and on campus, or future career and education plans?
My Brigade experiences have helped me to truly appreciate what I have here in the States as well as reinforce my desire to help others. After coming back from both my Brigades I told myself that I would not stop helping the underprivileged as long as I’m alive. This has allowed me to stay motivated and encourage others to join in helping the underprivileged.
